Carmel Benjamin AM (Jacobi, 1949)
Founder of Court Network

Carmel Benjamin AM was a House captain, probationer and member of the library committee, tennis and basketball teams during her time at Lauriston.

Founder and Executive Director of the Victorian Court Information and Welfare Network Inc., Carmel worked tirelessly from 1970 until her retirement in 1995 - by which time it had spread across all court systems. To support women in their transition from prison to the community, Carmel established a mentor program and in 2014 became the convenor of CAN the Community Accountability Network. These innovative programs reflect her philosophy of empowering individuals to take responsibility for the management of their own lives at the earliest opportunity.
